Certification

GRS Chain of Custody

GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certification tracks recycled content through every step of the supply chain. A Transaction Certificate is issued for each shipment.

How GRS Certification Works
Every link in the supply chain must be certified
01
rPET Chip Producer
GRS-certified recycler converts PET bottles into rPET chips. Receives Scope Certificate.
02
Yarn Manufacturer (Yaakan)
GRS-certified mill spins rPET chips into yarn. Issues Transaction Certificate (TC) per shipment.
03
Fabric Mill / Buyer
Must also be GRS-certified to pass the claim downstream to brands.
04
Brand / Retailer
Uses TC documents for sustainability reporting and product recycled content claims.
📄 What You Receive with Every GRS Shipment
  • Transaction Certificate (TC) — issued by our GRS certification body, verifying quantity and recycled content of your specific shipment
  • Scope Certificate (SC) — our factory-level certification confirming we are an approved GRS-certified manufacturer
  • Mill Quality Certificate — confirming yarn specification, denier, tenacity and other physical parameters
  • All certificates are verifiable on the Textile Exchange certificate platform

Who Needs It

Is GRS Certified Yarn Right for You?

EU & US Brand Suppliers
Nike, Adidas, H&M, Zara, Patagonia and most major global brands now require recycled content and GRS certification from their fabric and yarn suppliers. If your customer is a global brand — GRS is mandatory.
Vietnam Sportswear Factories
Brand-facing factories in Vietnam increasingly require GRS yarn for their production. EU sustainability regulations and brand commitments are driving rapid adoption across the Vietnam garment sector.
Outdoor & Technical Textile
Outdoor brands (Arc'teryx, The North Face, Columbia etc.) have among the highest sustainability requirements in the industry. Recycled polyester content is standard specification for most outdoor fabric.
Eco Product Lines
Retailers launching sustainable product lines need verified recycled content. GRS TC documents are required to make "made with recycled materials" claims on product labels and marketing materials.
Domestic / Local Market
If you sell into local markets without international brand buyers, GRS certification is typically not required. Virgin polyester is more cost-effective for these applications. We supply both — contact us to discuss.
Industrial & Technical Use
For geotextile, filter media, industrial nonwoven and similar applications, GRS certification is generally not required. Performance and cost are the primary drivers. Virgin specification usually sufficient.
💡 Not Sure If You Need GRS?

Ask your buyer: "Do you require GRS-certified recycled content for this order?" If yes — order our Recycle Series with TC. If they don't ask — virgin polyester is almost always more cost-effective. We supply both and can help you decide. Contact us with your buyer's requirements.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

GRS (Global Recycled Standard) is an international third-party standard administered by Textile Exchange that certifies recycled content and chain of custody in textile products. A Transaction Certificate (TC) is issued for each shipment, verifying that the recycled fiber content has been independently audited. Without GRS certification, buyers cannot legally claim "made with recycled materials" on their products in most major markets. Yaakan provides GRS TCs for all recycled yarn shipments.
Yes. Our GRS-certified recycled polyester yarn meets the same quality standards as virgin polyester. Denier CV%, tenacity, elongation, lustre and shrinkage performance are equivalent to virgin specifications. The raw material source is different (recycled PET bottles vs virgin petrochemicals), but the yarn properties are identical for all practical textile applications. A mill quality certificate is provided with every shipment confirming the specifications.
GRS-certified recycled polyester yarn typically carries a 5–15% price premium over the equivalent virgin specification, depending on the current market conditions and specific yarn type. The premium reflects the cost of certified raw material sourcing, additional processing steps, and GRS audit costs. Contact us for current FOB Xiamen pricing on both virgin and recycled specifications — we can send a comparison quote.
You can buy GRS-certified yarn without being certified yourself. However, if you want to pass the GRS recycled content claim to your downstream customer (a fabric mill, brand or retailer), both you and your downstream customers must each hold GRS certification. If you just want to buy recycled yarn for your own use without making a formal recycled content claim, no certification is needed on your end. Contact us and we can advise on the requirements for your specific situation.
MOQ is 1,000 kg per specification for all recycled filament yarn (DTY, FDY). For recycled cotton imitation spun yarn, MOQ is 500 kg. Lead time is typically 20–30 days after deposit confirmation — slightly longer than virgin yarn due to the certified raw material sourcing process. GRS Transaction Certificate is issued and sent electronically within 3–5 days of shipment. All orders FOB Xiamen.
