What Is It?

One Bath. Two Colours.

Cationic dyeable polyester (CDP/ECDP) is a chemically modified polyester that accepts cationic (basic) dyes — the same class of dyes used for acrylic fiber — instead of the standard disperse dyes used for regular polyester.

When cationic yarn is combined with standard polyester in the same fabric — as a composite yarn, woven structure or knit — a single dyeing process using both dye types produces two completely different colours simultaneously. This two-tone effect is achieved at no extra dyeing cost compared to a standard single-colour dye process.

The result: rich, dimensional colour effects that would otherwise require yarn-dyeing or double-bath processes. Highly popular for fashion sportswear, outdoor fabric and premium casual wear where visual differentiation matters.

🎨 Composite CD+SD Yarn

Our CD+SD composite yarn combines CD and SD filaments in a single yarn — the two-tone effect is built into the yarn itself before fabric production even begins.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Cationic dyeable polyester (CDP/ECDP) is a modified polyester that accepts cationic (basic) dyes instead of standard disperse dyes. When combined with regular polyester in fabric, a single dyeing process produces two distinct colours simultaneously — one colour on the cationic component, a different colour on the standard component. This creates two-tone or melange effects at no additional dyeing cost compared to a single-colour standard polyester dye process.
CDP (Cationic Dyeable Polyester) is the standard modified polyester that accepts cationic dyes. ECDP (Easy Care Cationic Dyeable Polyester) is an improved version with higher sulfonate group content, resulting in better dye uptake, more vibrant and saturated colours, improved wash fastness and better dimensional stability. Yaakan's ECDP DTY uses ECDP-grade modified polymer for superior colour performance.
No special dyeing equipment is required. Cationic polyester is dyed in standard polyester jet dyeing machines at the same temperatures used for disperse dyeing (120–130°C). The key difference is the dye formulation — cationic (basic) dyes are added alongside standard disperse dyes in the same bath. Most dye houses that handle polyester can process cationic yarn with minor formula adjustment. We can provide recommended dye process guidelines with your sample.
For woven two-tone fabric: CD Bright FDY (50D/24F) as warp + standard SD DTY as weft is a popular construction. For knit two-tone: CD SD DTY (75D or 150D) interlaced with standard SD DTY gives good colour contrast. For composite yarn (one yarn, two colours): Composite CD+SD DTY (75D–150D) is the simplest approach — the two-tone is built into the yarn. Contact us with your fabric weight (GSM) and construction and we'll recommend the right specification.
MOQ is 1,000 kg per specification for all cationic yarn types. Samples (0.5–1 kg per specification) are available before full order — you pay DHL courier cost only, sample yarn is free. We strongly recommend dye trials before bulk order, as colour results depend on your specific dye formulation and machine conditions. Contact us via WhatsApp or email with your required specification and we'll dispatch samples within 3–5 working days from Xiamen.
