Request Free Samples Before Any Order
Every professional yarn supplier will send samples before a bulk order — you pay courier cost only. Never place a first order without receiving and testing samples. Request samples that match your exact specification (denier, lustre, intermingling). Standard polyester yarn (DTY, FDY) prices are relatively transparent — if a supplier is quoting 15–25% below every other quote, ask why. Polyester yarn is a commodity — prices are transparent. If a quote is dramatically lower than market rate, the yarn is almost certainly underweight, off-spec, or a different quality than what was described. There is no legitimate reason for pricing 25% below market.
Refuses SGS or Third-Party Inspection
Any supplier with legitimate product quality welcomes independent inspection. A refusal means they either know the quality won't pass, or they're planning to ship something different from what was agreed. Non-negotiable red flag.
Cannot Provide a Mill Quality Certificate
A quality certificate is standard documentation for every lot of yarn produced by any reputable mill. A supplier who cannot produce one either doesn't work with quality mills or is buying off-spec/tail-end material and doesn't want you to know the specifications.
Demands 100% Advance Payment on First Order
Standard practice is 30% deposit + 70% before shipment, or L/C. A request for 100% advance before production starts gives you no leverage if quality or delivery is wrong. First order 100% advance is acceptable only with very established suppliers — never with an unknown one.
No Verifiable Company Information
No website, no verifiable address, no business licence number, contacts only via personal WeChat or WhatsApp. Legitimate companies have traceable identities. If you can't verify the company exists and is registered — don't proceed.
Sample Quality Differs from Bulk Shipment
The "bait and switch" — you receive a high-quality sample but the bulk shipment is lower quality or a different specification. Prevention: request SGS inspection with sample testing against your original sample. If this happens, document everything and dispute via L/C terms or legal channels.
Extreme Urgency or Pressure Tactics
"Price only valid for 2 hours." "Another buyer is taking this stock now." "You must decide immediately." These are pressure tactics designed to stop you from doing due diligence. Reliable suppliers understand that buyers need time. Walk away from anyone applying unusual urgency.
