Polyester Filament Yarn

Polyester FDY Yarn

Fully Drawn Yarn — FDY / 涤纶全拉伸丝
✓ In Stock ✓ GRS Recycled Available ✓ OEKO-TEX Certified ★ Trilobal Bright Available ✓ FOB Xiamen

Polyester FDY (Fully Drawn Yarn) is a smooth, high-tenacity continuous filament yarn produced through a single-step high-speed spinning and drawing process. Unlike DTY, FDY filaments are fully oriented with no crimp, giving the yarn a flat, uniform surface with superior tensile strength and dimensional stability. These properties make FDY the preferred choice for high-speed weaving as warp yarn, warp knitting, lace, and fine fabric applications where surface quality and consistency are paramount. Yaakan supplies FDY in a wide range of deniers and three luster types — semi-dull, bright, and trilobal bright — directly from China's leading polyester producers.

FDY Luster Types

FDY yarn is available in four luster grades, each with distinct visual and processing characteristics suited to different fabric applications.

Semi-Dull (SD)
Most Popular
Contains TiO₂ (titanium dioxide) which gives filaments a soft, natural appearance with muted luster. This is the most widely used FDY type for general apparel and home textile applications.
Woven fabric Lining fabric Knit fabric General apparel
Bright (BRT)
High Sheen
No TiO₂ — the filaments are fully transparent and reflect light strongly, giving fabrics a high-gloss, synthetic sheen. Preferred where a polished, lustrous appearance is desired.
Taffeta Satin weaves Festive fabric Lining
Trilobal Bright
Silk-Like Luster
Filaments have a trilobal (3-sided) cross-section that scatters and reflects light like natural silk, creating a unique soft shimmer. The premium FDY option for silk-imitation fabrics and luxury textiles.
Silk-imitation Charmeuse Georgette Evening wear

Note on Full-Dull (FD): A fourth option — Full-Dull FDY — contains higher TiO₂ content for a completely matte appearance, used in technical textiles and certain woven fabrics. Available on request.

Applications of FDY Yarn

FDY's smooth surface, high tenacity, and dimensional stability make it the go-to raw material for precision weaving and knitting applications where surface quality is critical.

High-Speed Weaving (Warp)
FDY's high tenacity and low elongation make it ideal as warp yarn in rapier and air-jet looms running at high speeds. Produces smooth, stable fabrics for lining, taffeta, Oxford cloth, and fine apparel. Often used with DTY as the weft.
75D/36F SD150D/96F SD300D/96F
Warp Knitting (Tricot & Raschel)
FDY is the primary raw material for warp knitting machines. Its uniformity and stability allow knitting at high machine speeds without yarn breakage, producing tricot fabric for lingerie, sportswear linings, and lace for the global fashion industry.
75D/36F SD75D/72F SD100D/48F
Lace & Lingerie Fabric
The smooth, sheer quality of fine FDY (50D, 75D bright and trilobal) makes it ideal for delicate lace structures on Raschel machines, as well as the sheer panels in lingerie, hosiery, and intimate apparel fabrics worldwide.
50D/24F Bright75D/36F BrightTrilobal
Silk-Imitation Fabric
Trilobal bright FDY replicates the cross-sectional shape of natural silk filaments, giving woven fabrics a characteristic silk-like luster and drape. Used widely in markets where authentic silk is cost-prohibitive — churidar, sarees, suiting, and dress fabrics.
75D Trilobal100D TrilobalBright
Lining & Taffeta Fabric
Jacket linings, umbrella cloth, and taffeta fabric require a smooth, slippery surface — a natural fit for FDY. The yarn's flat filament structure reduces friction in garment construction while maintaining a clean, polished appearance.
75D/36F Bright100D/48F SD150D/96F
Embroidery & Specialty Thread
Fine bright FDY, after twisting and finishing, is widely used in embroidery thread for its high colour saturation, sheen, and strength. Also used in specialty decorative threads and certain sewing applications requiring a metallic-effect substitute.

How FDY Is Made

The FDY Production Process

FDY is produced in a single integrated step — unlike DTY, there is no separate drawing stage.

01
PET Chips / Melt
Virgin or recycled PET chips are dried and melted in a screw extruder at ~280°C to form a consistent melt.
02
High-Speed Spinning
Melt is extruded through fine spinnerets at 3,500–4,500 m/min. The high take-up speed simultaneously orients and partially draws the filaments.
03
Integrated Drawing
Unlike POY, FDY undergoes full drawing in-line on the same machine using heated draw rolls, achieving full molecular orientation in a single step — hence "Fully Drawn Yarn".
04
Winding & QC
Fully drawn filaments are wound onto cones at precise tension. QC tests: denier, tenacity, elongation, Uster evenness, and boiling water shrinkage per batch.
