Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF) is a short-cut polyester fiber produced by melt spinning, drawing, crimping, and cutting continuous polyester filaments into discrete lengths. Unlike filament yarns (DTY/FDY/POY), PSF consists of individual short fibers used directly in spinning, filling, and nonwoven applications. Yaakan supplies a comprehensive range of PSF grades — from fine spinning fibers (1.4D) to heavy industrial grades (15D) — in both virgin and GRS-certified recycled rPET variants. Our PSF is sourced directly from China's leading producers and shipped FOB Xiamen to buyers across South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and beyond.

Product Types

PSF Variants

PSF is not a single product — different structural types serve fundamentally different applications. Choose the right variant for your end use.

Solid Regular PSF
Spinning Grade

The most widely used PSF type. Solid cross-section with mechanical crimp. Designed for spinning into yarn on ring spinning, open-end, or rotor spinning systems. The fine deniers (1.4D–3D) blend with cotton or viscose to produce blended spun yarns for apparel and home textiles.

Hollow Conjugated PSF
Siliconized Filling Grade

The premium filling fiber. Hollow cross-section (one or more air channels through the fiber) provides exceptional loft and resilience. Conjugated bi-component crimp gives it a permanent three-dimensional curl that resists flattening. Siliconized finish ensures fibers slide smoothly and fill evenly without clumping.

Low Melt Binder Fiber
Nonwoven Bonding Grade

A bicomponent fiber with a standard polyester core and a lower-melting-point polyester (or copolyester) sheath. When heat is applied, the sheath melts and bonds adjacent fibers together — used as a binder fiber (typically 10–20% blend) in thermally bonded nonwoven production for automotive, furniture, and hygiene applications.

Recycled PSF (rPET)
GRS Certified

Produced from post-consumer recycled PET (rPET), primarily from plastic bottles. GRS-certified recycled PSF meets the same physical performance standards as virgin PSF in most spinning and filling applications, while supporting brands' sustainability commitments. Each shipment comes with full GRS Transaction Certificates and chain-of-custody documentation.

Applications of Polyester Staple Fiber

PSF's versatility spans the entire textile and industrial fiber chain — from fine apparel yarn to heavy geotextile production.

Spinning Mills — Blended Yarn
Fine PSF (1.4D–3D, 38mm) is blended with cotton, viscose, or wool and ring spun into blended yarns (PC, PV, PW). These yarns are used in shirting, knitwear, workwear, and home textiles globally. PSF/cotton blended yarn is one of the world's highest-volume textile yarn types.
1.4D × 38mm1.5D × 38mm2D × 38mm
Pillow, Quilt & Cushion Filling
Hollow conjugated siliconized PSF is the world's most widely used pillow and quilt filling material. The hollow cross-section provides warmth-to-weight efficiency, the conjugated crimp creates permanent loft, and the silicone finish prevents clumping and enables smooth machine filling.
6D – 15D HollowConjugated CrimpSiliconized
Nonwoven Fabrics
PSF is the key raw material for needle-punched and thermally bonded nonwoven production. Applications include: geotextiles for civil engineering, filtration media, automotive interior components, hygiene products (spunlace nonwovens from fine PSF), and agricultural mulch fabric.
3D–15D51–76mmLow-Melt Binder
Automotive & Industrial
Coarse PSF (6D–15D, 64–76mm) is needle-punched into felt and batting for automotive sound insulation, trunk liners, door panels, and underbody protection. Thermally bonded PSF is used in HVAC filters, acoustic panels, and construction insulation products.
6D–15D64–76mmLow-Melt
Stuffed Toys & Soft Goods
Hollow siliconized PSF (7D–15D) is the standard filling for stuffed animals, plush toys, and soft furnishings. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification is required by major toy retailers. The silicone finish must be free from restricted chemicals under EN 71 toy safety standards.
7D–15D HollowOEKO-TEXEN 71 Safe
Sustainable & Recycled Products
GRS-certified rPET PSF meets the same performance standards as virgin PSF but supports brands' environmental commitments. Increasingly demanded by European fashion brands, home textile retailers, and any supply chain reporting against GRS, HIGG, or EU Green Deal targets.

How PSF Is Made

The PSF Production Process

PSF production transforms PET polymer into short, crimped fibers through a multi-stage process — fundamentally different from filament yarn production.

01
Melt Spinning
PET chips (virgin or rPET) are melted and extruded through spinnerets with thousands of holes simultaneously, forming a thick tow of continuous filaments.
02
Drawing
The tow is drawn (stretched) to align molecular chains and increase tenacity. Drawing ratio determines the final fiber properties — critical for spinning-grade vs filling-grade PSF.
03
Crimping
The tow passes through a stuffer box (mechanical crimp) or uses bicomponent fiber technology (conjugated spiral crimp). Crimp gives PSF the cohesion needed for spinning and the resilience needed for filling.
04
Finishing & Cutting
Oil finish (and silicone for filling grade) is applied before the tow is cut to the specified length (32–64mm) using precision blade cutters. Cut fiber is dried, then compressed into bales.
05
QC & Baling
Each batch is tested for denier, tenacity, elongation, crimp number, crimp stability, and oil content. Approved fiber is compressed into 200–250 kg bales, PE-wrapped and strapped for container loading.
